Happy Mother’s Day! What a special day for all our mothers, grandmothers, aunts and any special person in the lives of our second graders! The students were busy designing their “planting the Zinna seeds” for their special mother! They created beautiful writings and memorable cards that expressed their love and devotion.
Teacher Appreciation Week: Thank you for all the beautiful flowers, sentimental cards, and delicious candies that the children gave me this week. They were so excited to offer the gifts of thoughtfulness. I was very appreciative of all the beautiful gifts.
Thank you for attending the “Spring Showcase” on Wednesday night. The evening began with our tour of the butterfly garden, plant garden and window plants. Students watched the slide show displaying the memories of their second grade year. The children were so happy to “show off” their “Spring Showcase Portfolio” to their parents. The pictures of their first day of school, 100 days, and rising 3rd graders displayed the changes in each child throughout the school year. The homemade brownies and lemonade was enjoyed by the students.
The math students performed so well on their last math assessment. They worked hard to include strategies that helped solve the third grade word problems. I am so proud of their determination to strive for the best!
Math:
This week in math we will be reviewing many of the concepts learned throughout the year. Some of the math stations will include: money, fractions, time, word problems, and fact fluency.
Social Studies:
In social studies, we will continue to learn about the American Government, along with the Georgia legislature. It will be a fun learning experience with all!
Last week, we learned about the history of Cinco de Mayo and the significance of the special day. The second graders enjoyed receiving their "fiesta noise makers."
Writing
Students will continue to write their conclusions, hypotheses, and questions about science experiments that they have explored.
Reading
The second graders will continue to read fiction and non-fiction texts. They will be creating their own writings.
